Better security is a business enabler.
Many people hear the word "cybersecurity" and immediately tune out. So let's talk about business security instead, and connect it to a problem everyone can already see for themselves.
Below is the difference between reactive and proactive security, shown through something visual: a swimming pool.
Green means it already won.
By the time the water tells you something's wrong, the fix takes weeks, not minutes.
Clear means it never got the chance.
Same pool. Same sun. The only difference is when the work happened.
You wait for the problem to show itself.
Algae has to bloom before a reactive plan responds to it. Once the water turns green, the job changes from maintaining clarity to fighting an infestation already underway — and infestations need stronger, repeated treatment to undo.
The standard response is an algaecide, applied not once but several times across the summer, chasing a bloom that keeps finding room to return.
The problem never gets a foothold.
A proactive plan treats the water before algae has anything to grow on. The goal isn't recovery — it's a pool that stays exactly as clear on the last day of summer as it was on the first.
It uses a different class of chemical entirely: one dose, working continuously, instead of a cycle of emergency treatments.
Same pool, two different chemicals
Prevention isn't complicated. It's just less profitable to sell.
A pool store makes more from a customer who buys algaecide three or four times a season than from one who buys a single preventative dose and doesn't come back until fall. That's why the reactive cycle rarely gets interrupted with better information — even when better information is this simple.
The preventative chemical is an algaestat. One well-behaved option is plain borax: safe for your family, and it works by keeping algae from establishing in the first place, rather than killing it after the fact.
Reaction, or protection?
You can keep responding to green water after it happens, or set up your pool so it never gets the chance. One of those costs less — in time, in chemicals, and in the parts of summer you'd rather spend swimming.
Reactive Securty (just like the example for the pool) costs extra money in pool supplies, time and effort. The Proactive solution is more cost effective because it stops the algae from growing, for the organization the proactive solution is continuously monitoring and protecting the organization.
